Let’s start off with winter! Temps can range so much here. You can have a sunny day in the 30s and it feels quite warm. Our sun is intense, and also you have less atmosphere for those sun rays plus very low humidity. So a sunny day can feel quite warm. I will never forget when my sister visited a few years ago and it was about 10 degrees and sunny. She is from the east coast and was shocked that she wasn’t freezing!
But then you get those cold spells, when it gets cloudy and windy. NOW it feels cold! So it is best to be prepared.
Winter hats a must for when you are not skiing!
Gloves or mittens. I prefer mittens. My fingers get cold very easily and mittens keep me warmer.
Hand warmers. The disposable ones are best for activities. But you can put the rechargeable ones in a pocket.
Good layers! Think thermals, fleece, wool. These are the layers that go under your snow gear.
Snow pants or bibs. Bibs are great for kids so they don’t get snow down their pants!
Good socks. Look into some ski socks. You want something like smart wool, darn tough etc….
Boots…not only water proof but warm!
Coat
Neck Gaiters – so if it is windy you can pull them up over your face
Some extras to think about, especially if you are a cold person. They make heated vests, socks, etc… Snow Deer socks on amazon have worked for me and they are not to expensive. They will save you some agony if you tend to get cold feet.
